Weekend recap

This weekend has been fun but full- sound familiar?

Saturday we started the day off right, sleeping in, eating out for breakfast, followed by a trip to Walmart with the fam (the fam being the kiddos, my mom, and sister).  *Sidenote At WM we picked up some seed packets and when we get back from our trip besides going to Six Flags and breaking in those season passes we are going to start a garden.  I am SOOOO excited about this!** We played games and had lunch afterwards.  Then off to J1's basketball game and possibly the most exciting thing that happened this weekend- the Aggies WON our first game.  The boys played so hard and really deserved this win.  So proud of you buddy.

The rest of the night was spent picking up a little.  I decided to redo my room and it's been a disaster.  My garage was converted into a bedroom so it's a massive space but it also means we shove tons of stuff in here.  In order to pare things down, I decided to get rid of my desk (hello, I have a laptop and the only thing the desk does is hold clutter).  I also rearranged all my furniture which I think looks infinitely better.  Just tonight I think I FINALLY have everything where it needs to be including the things that have no "place" and are shoved under the bed.

Today everyone slept in again and once I got on Facebook I remembered I needed to change the clocks and then it looked like we REALLY slept in!  I taught the 3 year olds today in church and it wasn't that bad despite the fact there were 8 of them. Ay yi yi! The rest of the afternoon has been spent getting the rest of the odds and ends packed.  I am ready to turn in for the night but there's little things to do before we go.  Plus Real Housewives of Orange County is on tonight :)

Next time I post we'll be on the east coast! Until then...

Party like it's your birthday!

Guess what ya'll?  It's my mom's birthday! 

Unfortunately she has to work today so we won't be hanging out all day but we will be celebrating later by going out to eat. YUM!

I'd like to take a minute to recognize my mom for some of the ways she is so awesome..

~She is a great cook.  I might even venture to say FABULOUS.  There are some things that she makes that I crave all the time and they are only good when she makes them (like stroganoff)!

~She's also pretty proficient in listening.  I may or may not have a tendancy to ramble on but she lets me go on (and on and on and on...).

~She's nurturing.  EVEN though she loves her dog more than us somedays she still has enough love for all of us.  I think.

~She is my shopping buddy.  I've confessed my undying love for Target before and she shares it with me.  But even better sometimes when we need something that we can't get there she's willing to go with me to get it!  We've had some Saturday Walmart trips that would rival our Target trips like no other ;) And it doesn't even have to be for something exciting- we're happy just to go together and get bread, milk, etc.

~She's there.  It doesn't matter what- having a baby (mine or someone else's), getting a new house (she painted my living room before I moved in as a surprise to me), helping out with my kiddos, she's just there.

I love that as the years have gone on that my mom and I have become friends more than anything and I hope that one day when my daughter is older we'll have the same relationship!

Finally

We've lived in our house for 5 years this year.  And in all that time we've never owned a lawn mower.  Never!

The first few years my next door neighbor did it and when he moved I had a lawn service guy come.  But when an accquaintance of mine recently got married, she and her husband had two of everything and she had a lawn mower and weed eater she wanted to get rid of I jumped at the chance! 

We picked them up last night and I'm actually kind of excited to mow for the first time.  I am *sure* that feeling won't last long, especially once the temperature starts going above 100, but for now I'm just happy to think of that first time I'll mow my lawn with my lawn mower!  {And now I know that my youth is gone- did I really just admit that owning a lawn mower is exciting? Jeesh!} 

Sweet

Dessert?  Yes, please!

Friday Fabulousness

~Spending one on one time with my #1 guy today {even if it was just going to the ortho}... FABULOUS

~Going to the mall to return stuff and not spending any money {thank you gift cards!}... FABULOUS

~Realizing two weeks from today we'll be in NYC... FABULOUS

Please excuse my use of the word fabulous... I got caught up in watching an America's Next Top Model marathon today. Don't worry, I'm embarrassed for myself.

WARNING!

Don't say I didn't give you fair warning!

Target {have I mentioned loving this store before because I do!} is in full spring mode- from their spring decor, to the spring colored Oreos, to the spring clothes!  PLEASE only go in there prepared to part with your hard earned money.  :)

Because we know we have a penchant for going a little overboard when we visit, one of the new year's resolutions my mom, sister, and I made is to only go to Target {together} once a month.  It was bad last year.  If I'd had my Target debit card then I would have saved a LOT of money. 

Yesterday was the first day of the month, no thanks to my sister for pointing that out, so I promptly cancelled J1's cello lesson {I know, I know!} and off we went.  Well we went after I ran back home to get my pump but I digress... We met my mom and sister up there and proceeded to do our "lap".  We have a Super Target so we start in the food and work our way around the store.  If we don't walk our aisles the way we're supposed to we get all discombobulated {yeah, that's a word!} and inevitably someone forgets something they actually came for.  And I should mention that our "lap" does not make sense because we start with the food- perishables, people!- and end up in clothing.

I needed a few grocery type items so I grabbed them.  Then we passed the backpacks and J2 found some because hers had conveniently broken earlier in the day *sigh* and I would have preferred the cheaper one but settled for the more expensive one that will hopefully hold up better.  We got this one but in a blue/teal.

We made it safely passed electronics, toys, and movies/dvds/books, to move on to the clothing section.
This is where we started to have problems... first we come upon the men's section.  Oh yeah, we have to shop in the men's section because my 12 year old son is as tall as me.  *SIGH*  He sees this and has to have it {thanks Nana}



Ok so not too bad.  Then we hit the women's section and all heck breaks loose!  J1 is playing on his nana's phone because he now has lost interest completely {who could blame the poor kid?}.  There are 4 women now perusing the racks and it's chaos.  Everyone is scattering around like ants saying "Oh, look at this!" and "What about this?" and "I NEED this!" And I did need this...

And two plain shirts and a pair of capris.  YIKES!

Then we walk by the shoes and I don't see anything I like but J2 does!
{Again, thanks nana!} Ok ok ok, so our frozen foods are starting to melt and my dad has probably called each of us wondering where we are {and we don't get the greatest reception in there hence the fact he has to try to call each of us, probably getting more annoyed/worried/angry with each call} so we need to hurry it up!  We start to go by the girls section and as J2 wanders off I spot a messenger bag type thing but one glance at my cart and I put it back {can I get a pat on the back?}.  I'm convinced by my dearest daughter that she absolutely NEEDS a new dress so in the cart this goes too...
Somehow as we're about to escape to the checkout lines we remember we've missed the whole middle of the store {think linens, home decor, etc} and we head that way.  As we're walking quickly through the aisles I see a bookshelf for $16 that we need so in the cart that goes too.  By the way, I use the term "in the cart" loosely because by this time there's no room "in" the cart it is draped across the top.  Was that you trying to get by me last night? Oops, sorry for being an aisle hogger.

Sooooo what should have been a $30 trip for some groceries to get me through the weekend ended up being a spree!  Considered yourselves warned...

It's spring at Target!!

Happy Independence Day!

TEXAS Independence day ya'll!  Yeah that's right...

I don't know any other state that is so proud of itself. Seriously! Do you know anyone in, say, North Dakota, who decorates their house with ND decor?  You can find Texas decor in a great number of homes down here.

And something I've seen a lot of people posting about lately that I think is too cute is our own line of OPI nail polishes.  That's right- Texas women need their own polish ya hear?
